Doily Bag


Here is a combo-creation that's fun and very satisfying to work on. It is a combination of the grape doily and bling-bling bag patterns found below.

Popcorn Flower Afghan

This is an offshoot of one of my mother's maiden
attempts at crocheting over 30 years ago. The nice thing about the pattern is that it's easy to adapt to your own colors and style!


Materials:
crochet hook - size J
Worked with 2 colors (A & B)

Gauge:
1 motif = 6" square

Motif Pattern:
With A, ch 4. Join with sl st to form ring.
1: Ch 3 (counts as 1 dc), work 15 dc in ring, join with a sl st to top
of ch 3 (16 dc)
2: Ch 4, *dc in next dc, ch 1; rep from *, ending sl st in 3rd ch of
ch 4 (16 ch 1 sp). Break , draw mc through loop on hook.
3: Ch 3, 4 dc in first sp, draw up loop on hook, remove hook, insert
from front to back through top of ch 3 and through free loop, drawing
loop to hook size, yo and through loops on hook (popcorn), ch 2, *work
5 dc in next sp, draw up loop, remove hook, insert hook in top of
first dc and free loop, complete as before, ch 2; rep from * around;
join with a sl st to top of ch 3 of first popcorn. Break off MC, draw
A through loop on hook.
4: Ch 3, 2 dc in last ch-2 sp of last row (3-dc shell), *(3 dc in next
ch-2 sp) 3 times; in next sp, work shell, ch 2 and shell (corner); rep
from *, ending shell in same sp as first shell, ch 2, join with a sl
st to top of ch 3. Break off A, draw MC through loop on hook.
5: Through back loops, work 1 sc in same st with sl st and in each dc,
3 sc under each ch 2 at corners. Join and fasten off.

Flower Yoke


This project goes to show that you can't make a doily when a little rascal is around. She claimed this chain of flowers as her rightful yoke!


The pattern given below is for 20 flowers. You can stop at any point according to the size of yoke you would like to make.

Materials:
Embroidery skien or crochet cotton size 10: small quantities of each color desired.
Crochet hook - 1.65mm or size needed to obtain gauge.

Gauge:
Flowers = 2" diameter

Special Instructions:
2-dc cl: Holding back on hook last lp of each st, 2 dc in indicated st, yo, draw through rem 3 lps on hook.

Ring of Flowers:
First flower:

Rnd 1: With white, ch 6, join to form a ring, ch 1, 10 sc in ring, join in beg sc.
Rnd 2: *Ch 1, sc in same place, ch 3, sk next sc, sc in next sc, rep from * around, join in beg sc, fasten off. (5 ch-3 sps)
Rnd 3: Attach color A in any ch-3 sp, ch 1, [sc, hdc, 3 dc, hdc, sc] in each ch-3 sp around, do not join. (5 petals)
Rnd 4: Working behind petals, [ch 5, sl st in sc between petals] rep around.
Rnd 5: [Sc, ch 2, dc, 3 tr, ch 5, sl st in top of last tr made (picot), 3 tr, dc, ch 2, sc] in each ch-5 sp around, join in beg sc, fasten off.

Second flower:
Rnds 1 & 2: Rep Rnds 1 and 2 of first flower.
Rnds 3 & 4: With color B, rep Rnds 3 and 4 of first flower. (This is the joining round.)
Rnd 5: [{Sc, ch 2, dc, 3 tr, ch 2, sc in picot on corresponding petal of previous flower, ch 2, sl st in top of last tr made, 3 tr, dc, ch 2, sc} in next ch-5 sp] twice, *[sc, ch 2, dc, 3 tr, ch 5, sl st in top of last tr made, 3 tr, dc, ch 2, sc] in next ch-5 sp, rep from * around, join in beg sc, fasten off.

Third to seventh flowers:
Beg with color C, rep Rnds 1-5 of second flower to make 5 more flowers in established color sequence.

Eighth flower:
Rnds 1-4: Rep Rnds 1-4 of 2nd flower (mid rose).
Rnd 5: *[Sc, ch 2, dc, 3 tr, ch 2, sc in picot on corresponding petal of previous flower, ch 2, sl st in last tr made, 3 tr, dc, ch 2, sc] in next ch-5 sp, rep from * 3 times, [sc, ch 2, dc, 3 tr, ch 5, sl st in top of last tr made, 3 tr, dc, ch 2, sc] in next ch-5 sp, join in beg sc, fasten off. Set aside.

Attach to blouse/shirt using needle and thread.

Crochet on the Go!



Whether you like to take your crochet from room to room, storey to storey, or country to country, this nifty little bag will definitely come in handy!

Crochet cotton size 10: 325 yards
Crochet hook: 1.65 mm
Keychain rings (or plastic rings, 1" diameter) - 2

Wrist Strap:
Row 1: With RS facing, sk first 7 free ch-4 lps from joining at right side of first side, attach thread with a sl st in next ch-4 lp, ch 1, sc in same lp, [ch 4, sc in next lp] 3 times, turn.

Row 2: [Ch 4, sc in next ch-4 lp] 3 times, turn.
Rep Row 2 until wrist strap measures approximately 9 inches, ending with a WS row; do not fasten off; turn.

Last Row: Ch 2, sl st in 8th free ch-4 lp from joining on corresponding side of 2nd side, ch 2, sc in first ch-4 lp on wrist strap, [ch 2, sl st in next ch-4 lp on 2nd side, ch 2, sc in next ch-4 lp on wrist strap] twice, ch 2, sl st in next ch-4 lp on 2nd side, fasten off.

Grape Doily



Two versions of a mini centerpiece doily - in vintage lacey white and in snazzy gold and green.


Finished Size: 12 inches in diameter

Materials:
500 yards crochet thread (size 10 for the white and sport weight for the color)
crochet hook: 1.30mm/2.75mm

Gauge:
Rnds 1-3 = 2 1/4 inches in diameter

Pattern Stitches:
P: Ch 3, sl st in last sc made.
Shell: [2 dc, ch 3, 2 dc] in indicated st or sp.
Beg shell: [Ch 3, dc, ch 3, 2 dc] in indicated st or sp.
Pc: 5 dc in indicated sp, remove hook from lp, insert hook from RS to WS in first dc made, pick up dropped lp, draw through st on hook.
Beg pc: [Ch 3, 4 dc] in indicated st or sp, remove hook from lp, insert hook from RS to WS in 3rd ch of ch-3, pick up dropped lp, draw through st on hook.


NOTE: For the color doily, the first 3 rows are in green, then subsequent popcorns ONLY are in green. After each set of popcorns, fasten off the green. The gold may be pulled through, hidden under the green popcorns. Optionally, the last row can be in a contrast black or red.

Bling-bling Bag


Perfect to hold your bling *and* your bling! A very easy and enjoyable pattern to crochet.


Finished Size: 11" across

Materials: 370 yards color A, 350 yards color b - worsted weight
81 silver beads, 42 star beads
tapestry needle
size h hook

Gauge:
4 rounds = 4 inches

Special Stitches:
beg cl (beginning cluster): ch 2, dc in first stitch

cl (cluster): yo, insert hook in next, yo, pull loop through, yo, pull through 2, yo, insert hook in same st, yo, pull loop through, (yo, pull through 2) two times.

beaded hdc: yo, insert hook in next st, yo, pull loop through, pull up one silver bead, yo around bead, pull through all loops on hook.

beaded dc fp: yo, insert hook from front to back around next st, yo, pull loop through, pull up one star bead, yo, pull through 2 loops, pull up one silver bead, yo, pull through all loops on hook.

NOTE: for both front and back, work till row 10 in color A and the remaining in color B.

Back:

Shoulder Strap:
Ch 258, dc in 4th ch from hook, dc in next 96 ch, cl in next ch, (ch 1, sk next ch, cl in next ch) across, being careful not to twist strap, join with sl st in top of ch 3, fasten off.

Assembly:
Step 1: Holding front and strap wrong sides together, working through both thicknesses, matching st, join with sc in first st of strap and any st on front. At same time, sc in next 98 st leaving remaining st of front unworked for opening; working through one thickness of strap only, sc in next, (2 hdc in next ch sp, hdc in next) around, join with sl st in first sc. Fasten off.

Step 2: Repeat above for back and shoulder strap.

Step 3: Edging: working in unworked st across top opening of bag front, join with sl st in first st, ch 2, hdc in each st across. Fasten off. Repeat across top opening of bag back.
